Comet Caliente – Owned

Hello Doug,
I wanted to tell you the story of my car, "Belle".
My Dad and mother had left town on what was supposed to be their chance at a
romantic weekend. He drove by a used car lot and spotted the little '67
Comet, turned around and stopped to inquire about the car. They never made
it to their romantic get-a-way. He spent the trip money on the car and
brought it home to me. I must admit I was skeptical at first. It
looked too big for a teenage girl. All my doubts were swept away as I
drove it home. I fell in love and named her 'Belle'. I never cease
to get a thrill when people ask about my car. Here are some pics!
She's a 1967 Comet Caliente with the stock 289 engine. I'm the third and
the last owner because, Lord willing, I'll never sell! Everyone always
asks if she's my husband's car and they get a very fast "No way!" He
enjoys cruising the local show circuit with me though.
Six years ago when I turned 16 the only car
I wanted was a '63 Ford Falcon. My Dad looked all over Alabama to find one that
we could afford and fix together. One day he stumbled upon a 1967 Comet
Caliente in great condition at a local used car lot and he couldn't refuse.
When he pulled up in the yard and told me it was mine I cringed. I had
just asked him to sell my first car, which was a 1967 Fairlane and I didn't want
another land barge. I gave the Comet a test drive and fell in love.
It is a coupe with the standard 289 engine and I will NEVER part with it.
I've had people follow me all over town for the opportunity to ask if it was for
sale. I love sitting at traffic lights while the driver next to me leans
out the window to learn more about my pet. My problem is that I don't see
much about this particular year and model. I see plenty of information
about the '67 Comet Cyclone, but would like to get the word out that the
Caliente is far from a family car. I love your website. Keep up the
great work!

P.S. Whenever Dad mentions a Falcon, I
say "Who wants a Falcon when you can
have a Comet?"
These pictures were taken just after my Dad bought the car in June of 1996. When he got it the original hubcaps were on it and I begged him to replace the wheels with the mags you see on it in the pictures. Later when we found out one of the wheels was warped he let me use the original Mustang wheels off of his '69 Mach 1.
