Robin L'Heureux - '65 Mercury Comet Caliente 4 dr.
My project
I have a lot planed. First the 289 comes out, I am going to have it rebuilt to original 65 spec, maybe a cam. Then I am going to have the heads ported and polished and top it all off with an Edelbrock 289 air gap, or a dual quad if I can find it.
As you can see from the pictures, I am going to replace the stock exhaust with my Hooker Super Comps. from there I have yet chose if I want 3 in dual out the back or race cut-outs and side pipes. Then I will take a lesson from my brother and use a 351 motor mount on the driver side, that little pin helps allot. For
a trany I got a Borg-Warner FMX, from a 67 Ford Ranch Wagon, because that old Merc-O-Matic is about to die. Eight to great, the car came with at 3.00:1 in the back, I think it needs more. So I picked up a fresh 3.40:1. With the old gears I could roast the wheels off, and with the new ones it will be just as bad, so
my new wheels are 205/70 R14s and some nice mag's I picked up for cheap. To accommodate the 205's I am lifting the back 3-inch with extended shackles and adjustable air shocks. Time allowing I am going to final make the traction bars I designed. I have already rebuilt to power steering. Ideally I want a car that
will run in the 14's.
